Lyn Anstey is an award-winning artist based in the Riverland, South Australia. Renowned for capturing the breathtaking beauty of the Murray River and its surrounds, gum blossoms have become a favourite subject.
"I still remember the first time I set up my easel beneath the sprawling gum tree. The light filtered through the leaves, and clusters of pink blossoms were dancing in the breeze. I love exploring their colours, delicate petals and hard gnarly gum nuts".
In the early days, Lyn used pencil and pens to create before attending an oil painting course facilitated by the late, noted, Robert Doyle. This set her on a different creative path, and every opportunity was taken to master the medium of oils. For over thirty years she has continued to refine techniques with gum blossoms becoming a signature subject.
Lyn has exhibited her work in solo and group exhibitions and has won numerous prizes and awards, with some highlights being Best in Show at the Campbelltown Art Show and Murray Bridge Art Show, twice winning Best Portrait at Magenta Art Show and Best Landscape. As an Associate member of the Royal South Australian Society of Arts, Lyn has received People's Choice Award twice, as well as the People's Choice Award at the Murray Bridge Art Show and the Burra Portrait Prize.
Lyn is very involved with art in the Riverland and happily shares her love and skill set by facilitating youth and adult art lessons, inspiring others to appreciate and paint the unique beauty of gum blossoms.
